Surprised to see this one? This was my previous site design, and I was extremely happy with how it turned out. So, why didn't I use it?
We often realize that it is hardest to do for ourselves what we do for others for a living. While this design seemed perfect at the time, it was designed to be a blog first and foremost, then a portfolio. While I am apt to write very interesting technical things sometimes, I simply don't have the time to commit to a regular blog.
So, really, it was just a case where I didn't realize what I wanted from my site until after I had fully coded and programmed the wrong thing. :-P
Obviously, the design that followed this one (which you are currently browsing) changed a few things. The improvements, as I see them, are:
- Eliminated the three rotating boxes on the homepage. Too much movement! Slider's much better.
- Eliminated blogroll. This isn't a blog.
- Changed projects to portfolio. Projects may come back but, likely, I will use "musings" to talk about side programs.
- Social icons and content removed. Makes for a cleaner site. I will probably try to work them back in, but only after I find a way to do it without cluttering things.
- All the gradients are gone! They had to go... lighting seems cleaner than gradients.
- Font color contrasts better with dark background and makes things more readable. No more gray/yellow/white/black on gray background... too much!
